What is it?
Additional amendments to official passports are changes that can be made to an existing official passport while the holder is abroad. These changes can include:
- Adding or removing a visa
- Changing the holder’s name, date of birth, or other personal information
- Extending the validity of the passport
Who can apply for additional amendments to an official passport abroad?
Only Vietnamese citizens who hold official passports can apply for additional amendments to their passports abroad.
How to apply for additional amendments to an official passport abroad
To apply for additional amendments to an official passport abroad, the holder must submit the following documents to the Vietnamese representative agency in the country where they are located:
- A completed Application Form for Amendment of Official Passport
- Two passport-sized photos
- The original official passport
- A copy of the decision or notification from the Vietnamese authorities approving the amendment(s)
Processing time
The processing time for additional amendments to official passports abroad varies depending on the complexity of the amendment(s) and the workload of the Vietnamese representative agency. However, it typically takes 3-5 working days to process an application.
Fees
There is a fee for applying for additional amendments to an official passport abroad. The fee varies depending on the type of amendment(s) being requested.
Example:
A Vietnamese citizen who is working abroad on an official passport may need to have their passport amended to add a new visa for a different country. To do this, they would need to submit the required documents to the Vietnamese representative agency in the country where they are working. The representative agency would then process the application and issue the amended passport to the holder.
Please note:
Additional amendments to official passports cannot be made to passports that have expired or that are damaged. If the holder’s passport is expired or damaged, they will need to apply for a new passport.
