Consular Procedure

The Consular Section of the Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico provides a wide range of administrative and legal services for both Vietnamese citizens residing in Mexico and international individuals or organizations.

In 2026, we have streamlined our procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Below are the primary consular services offered at our Mexico City office.

1. Legalization of Documents

Legalization is the process of authenticating a document so that it is legally recognized in Vietnam or Mexico. This is essential for business contracts, educational degrees, and marriage certificates.

• Requirements:

  1. The document must first be notarized by a local Notary Public in Mexico.

  2. The document must be authenticated by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

  3. Bring the original and a copy to the Embassy for the final Consular Legalization.

• Processing Time: 3–5 business days.

2. Passport Services for Vietnamese Citizens

For Vietnamese citizens currently living, working, or studying in Mexico, we provide comprehensive passport support:

• New Passport Issuance: For infants born in Mexico to Vietnamese parents.

• Passport Renewal: If your current passport is expiring (within 6 months) or has no blank pages.

• Re-issuance: In case of loss or damage (requires a local police report).

3. Five-Year Visa Exemption Certificate

This service is specifically for Overseas Vietnamese and their family members (spouses and children) who wish to enter Vietnam multiple times without applying for a standard visa.

• Stay Duration: Allows for stays of up to 180 days per entry.

• Validity: Up to 5 years (but must be at least 6 months shorter than the passport’s expiration date).

• Requirements: Proof of Vietnamese origin (Birth certificate, old passport) or proof of relationship (Marriage certificate).

4. Civil Registration & Other Services

We assist with various civil and administrative tasks:

• Birth Registration: For children born in Mexico to at least one Vietnamese parent.

• Marriage Registration: Conducted between two Vietnamese citizens or a Vietnamese citizen and a foreigner.

• Criminal Record Check (No. 1 & No. 2): Assistance in requesting records from the National Center for Criminal Records in Vietnam.

• Power of Attorney: Attestation of signatures for legal transactions in Vietnam.

5. Consular Fees & Payment 2026

• Currency: All consular fees are payable in US Dollars (USD).

• Payment Method: Please contact the Consular Section for the latest bank account details or onsite payment instructions.

• Note: Fees for legalization and passport services are non-refundable once the application has been processed.

Q: Can I send my documents via courier? A: Yes. If you are not in Mexico City, you may send your documents via DHL or FedEx. Please include a pre-paid return envelope so we can send the documents back to you.
